This seems to be the current philosophy of google as it sweeps it’s failed attempts at social media under the carpet as it prepares to bet the farm on Google plus. Google+ is an unconsidered effect, a revision in short-term philosophy, predicated on the mistaken idea that Facebook is winning because they built a grand product. But that’s not why they are unbeaten. Facebook is triumphant because they built an entire collection of products by allowing other people to do the work. So Facebook is diverse for everyone. Some battle all day on Mafia Wars or war games. While others skip work and ignore their families just to farm on Farmville. There are hundreds or maybe thousands of different premium time wasters available, so there’s something there for one and all.

The simple notion that you can buy games and add it to a platform is a contemptible attempt to predict what people want and deliver it to them. It would appear that Google lacks people who are able to think inside as well as outside the box. As much as I disliked Steve Jobs he was a visionary when it came to giving you what you thought you needed. It’s clear to me now that Google lacks a person of such qualities.

The demise of Facebook will come with their constraints in maturing your network. They seem to punish expansion instead of allowing it to grow like fields in farmville. Having to generate a page and re brand that seems foolish to me – Social Media is about friends so the caps on personal friends seems odd while allowing large companies the ability to grow exponentially on their facebook pages. This is one area of Google + that they got right as it levels the playing field between the very large and the very small. Corporation may have the same rights as people but they are not human.

Can you honestly say that you know the CEO of any large corporation? The reason for this is that they hire other people to set up and run their social networking sites and work very hard at telling you what they think you want to hear in order to make themselves appear human. How little they care about people and how loathsome is the profit machine.
